Re: Star Wars Battlefront II

Oh man SWBF2 is already one of my favourite games so even if this is bad I can't be disappointed?

Re: Mellie's Random Game Discussion Thread

I tried the TES card game Hearthstone clone. It played less like Hearthstone than expected... which says a lot because it's really similar. There are two "lanes" you can play cards into, and monsters can't attack between lanes which is a nice way to add depth to summoning and trades. Lots of the car...

Re: Beauty and the Beast

The Disney version says the curse has been on the castle for 10 years, and that's close to the Beast's 21st birthday. So an 11 year old boy got cursed for not letting a strange old woman in. They keep the 21st birthday thing in the new one I think? And from the opening it can't be more than a year o...

Re: Meet your newest Overwatch hero – Orisa

Why even put a Rein with Bastion now? Bastion is capable of self sustaining, and even with the passive damage resist nerf hotfix he's tanky as hell. You're better using your Rein to protect everything that isn't Bastion, then the enemy has to decide to either commit hard to Bastion and get fucked by...

Re: Meet your newest Overwatch hero – Orisa

Orisa can AOE reduce your mobility and pull you towards a certain point every 8 seconds with her right click. That is going to suck so much to play against. OW is so full of abilities that are lame to play into, rather than ones that are fun to use. Ana added a sleep dart, Sombra is all about disabl...

I could go all day with scenes from shitty movies but I'll pick two.

First some Cameron Mitchell love (VOLUME WARNING)

And this is Leo Fong at his finest

Re: Australian gamers stunned as ABC cancels Good Game

Sad to see it go, although I felt like the show peaked a few years ago and hadn't quite been as enjoyable to me lately. The team were clearly very talented and as hard as a change can be I'm keen to see what they go on to do in the future. I also agree with the stuff about the ABC though, it used to...

Re: Power Rangers (2017)

I caught some of the latest Power Rangers series the other day. It's still just like it always was, although back to the goofier tone of the original series (I grew up with In Space which was heavier, and then Lost Galaxy which was a huge shift in storytelling and tone). It's corny and pretty badly ...

Re: Rogue One (first Star Wars standalone)

I saw it, I liked it. On reflection it made me remember how much character Rey and Finn had in Ep7. Everyone in Rogue One was pretty bland. I hated the opening, disliked the first hour, but then holy shit did it redeem itself once they actually got to the Imperial Archive. Action was good, space bat...

Re: Retrogaming

I ended up buying a PS2 slim 2nd hand on the cheap today. The disc laser mechanism is pretty loud, I don't know if that's standard for PS2 slims, but I mostly wanted a console with an ethernet port so that I can load games over my network rather than burning a heap of DVDs. I got an entire second co...

Re: Here’s the winners of The Game Awards

I have a lot of questions about these, but why on Earth did Pokemon Go win best mobile game? It had such little content, and felt like it was just a small part of what could have been something great. Is it just a popularity contest?

Re: Retrogaming

Nah I use PCSX2 for some things but it just isn't the same. Some games are fine, I started replaying Dragon Quest 8 on PC a year or two back with no issue, but most action games I can really feel the difference. I grew up with a PS2, so the original look and feel is a big part of the charm for me. I...

Re: Retrogaming

I pulled my PS2 apart for a clean yesterday. It had been scratching discs - there was a bunch of hair and stuff in the CD tray mechanism and getting rid of that seems to have fixed it. Removing 14 years of dust out was a hassle, and I'm kind of surprised it all still works given my history haha. Hav...

Re: What are you watching?

I've been blasting through Star Trek: TNG lately. I've never watched any Trek, so I found some advice online that said to watch the first episode then skip to season 2. Currently in the middle-end of season 4 and I'm loving it. Lots of hilarious gibberish pseudoscience, fun moral issues and a likeab...

Re: Don’t buy Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare from the Windows 10 Store

Holy shit this is amazing. Forget offering better prices or features or anything over Steam, just fuck your users until you create enough of a divide that Steam becomes inconvenient for them. Bad play Microsoft, I hope this is reversed soon.

Re: Mellie's Random Game Discussion Thread

You're confusing hand drawn pixel art with retro. There's nothing specifically old about this style. I break it down in a pretty simple way. A game like Shovel Knight that clearly copies the style of NES/SNES games and goes as far as limiting themselves to various technical limitations of the old da...

Re: Mellie's Random Game Discussion Thread

I wouldn't call that retro looking. Shovel Knight tried to emulate NES/SNES graphics - kind of a mishmash of the two, respecting colour pallets and other limitations most of the time, although with the freedom to break them when needed. Super Meat Boy wasn't retro looking. It was smooth bold blocks ...

Re: Power Rangers 2017

I was a huge Power Rangers fan back when I was about 4. We had every episode of In Space taped on VHS, with ad breaks masterfully skipped although sometimes at the cost of a word or two :D I wasn't hugely impressed by the teaser. It had that same vibe every trailer has at the moment? I'm just not ex...
