Linda Hamilton returns to the franchise. What sort of deal did old Jimmy Cameron have to give her to get her back I wonder?

A few other things also need to happen.

- they need to do practical effects where possible. Too much cgi is ugly. I'd love to see some solid miniature work
- Brad Fiedel needs to be on board. He's the sound of the Terminator franchise.
- it should be shot on film. Digital is just too clean.
- the colour tone of the final product needs to have that cold bluey metal tint to it. Rust brown didn't work so well.

This is the number one beef I have with modern cinema, CGI doesn't look as good as practical effects.

James Cameron doing his sales pitch so soon is worrying.

The consensus seems to be that this is really the best Terminator film since T2 but mainly because they pull off a Force Awakens and play it safe (but does it satisfyingly)...

Finally got around to watching this and... whilst it's not bad, it's nothing we haven't seen before.
The whole killing John Connor and replacing him with a girl felt like it was done just to spite Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot. Yeah, OK, so making it so that if John Connor wasn't around, that someone else would rise up to lead the human resistance means the war can keep going no matter what but it takes all the suspense out of having to protect the saviour of mankind.

The Rev9 also feels a bit gimmicky... definitely not as cool and iconic as the T-1000 and felt more like a rehash of the T-X from Terminator 3. They really should have come up with a more original adversary first before making this movie.

And of course, the over reliance on CGI just doesn't work for a franchise built on practical effects.

I think T3 is a slightly better film than this. Maybe this will be the last for a long time as the last 3 films have bombed at the box office, each one supposed to be the start of a trilogy.
Dani is such a generic character, they have been trying to put John as doesn't matter to what's going in this movie on since T3 becaused he died, skynet didn't exist, whatever the fuck his goal was in Genesis, watch his parents conceive him while Google home launched?

Doesn't help the amount of info to why she's important amounts to a whopping 40 seconds of telling us in maybe 90 seconds scenes, thanks to "it's classified" or "I'm not telling you" back and forth between Grace and Sarah.
This also shouldn't have been a soft reboot aka Star Wars, this should have been HARD reboot, forget 1984, Schwarzenegger all that shit, there was a lot of potential and I think the old parts weighed it down

I also found T3 slightly better. It was more consistent and made more sense.

I thought setting Salvation in the future was a good decision but it wasn't executed well... wasn't the future we saw in T1 and T2. Genisys was a mess and Dark Fate just did T3's T-X but more aggressive and able to fully split the liquid metal and robot components.

I rewatched T2 last night... that movie was visionary and executed with the right talent on all fronts... visuals, sound, music, etc. They really should hold off on another Terminator movie until they get all this right.

Check out the documentary "In search of the last action hero" where they have interview snippets with Brad Fiedel... he explains his thoughts for how he composed T2's music. No wonder it turned out how it did.
