If he can put up with me shoveling food in my face and my constant throat clearing then who am i to judge? I don't even notice it tbh, you get used to the sounds an individual makes and its just background noise.

I only get pissed off by people who have crackly mic's or feedback and just never fix it, i know people who have had the same shit broadcast quality for a decade.

The problem is that disturbed sleep leads to disturbed minds. Lived with a shift worker many years ago - came home after shift and a branch of the fruit tree outside his window was tapping... his solution - take an axe and chop down the whole tree. Not the reasonable solution of prune one branch. Chop down the whole damn tree. It took him an hour.

The place doesn't do jugs at happy hour. Infact I'm pretty sure the instruct the staff to be as inattentive as possible during happy hour cause it was a constant battle to order our drinks. But we did it 5 times.

What are people's thoughts on the following in a corporate environment:

Beards.
Ties..
Tie knots.

I think I actually look more presentable with the beard and really don't see any issues with a well trimmed beard working in a programming firm.

I'm not really sure about what sort of tie to wear or even if i should wear one at all.

And finally if I do wear a tie, do I go half windsor or something a little less common like a prince albert or do I go maximum level of show off with a trinity knot ?

Clean shaven, tie if it's part of the dress code, and half or full windsor .. if I ever see anyone with a trinity knot, I'm going to think they're a total dickhead

Also it's 11 degrees here, wtf.

Depends on the place.
A well trimmed beard is fine in most places, and if you got the job with one then they obviously don't mind you having one.

As for tie, no bloody idea. I have never worn one to work, never had to.
But then again I don't actually know how to tie a tie...

Yep, a well trimmed beard that looks cared for is never a problem; it's the unkempt look that never passes.

As for a tie, it all depends on your work environment. My first day at work I wore a full suit and tie. After seeing no-one else wearing a tie, the following day I left it off, and have never worn a tie since (unless I had a meeting with a bigwig or had to appear in Court).

I honestly think i look ridiculous clean shaven so giving that a miss

Half windsor looks so much better than a full windsor imo ... full windsor looks silly

I grew a beard late last year, I've got a weak chin so I look much better with it. Keep it clean and trimmed and its all good. Although I've stopped plucking out the grey hairs cause that just makes new ones grow faster.

Also:

Beards = only if very neatly trimmed.
Tie knots = keep it simple
Ties = yes, unless the dress code is business casual - if some people do and some people don't, wear one if you want to progress up the ladder.

I'm surprised I haven't been asked to trim/tidy my beard for my job at Woolworths.
My 2nd job at Ishka is completely different, my area manager loves it and get a few compliments on it from customers each day.

I don't think I could go to a job now where I'd have to potentially get rid of mine.

Without sounding like I'm suggesting you're an unkempt, dirty bastard (because I'm not) - the dress/grooming standards of your generic retail stores has really lowered in the past 10-15 years because too many employers were getting slammed with discrimination cases when they asked employees to maintain a certain personal appearance. When I worked at Woolworths (20 years ago) we were expected to maintain a 'natural' hair colour, wear simple jewellery, neutral or clear nail polish and tattoos were to be covered. These days, I doubt they have those rules in place. As for Ishka, your appearance probably suits the image the company wants to portray.

Retail is a very different beast to corporate though - there is still an expectation of maintaining a professional and polished appearance in most reputable corporate settings unless the company is intentionally trying to be hip/cool.
