But realistically it's probably because it's TPG. And TPG are garbage.
Also tested with an ethernet cable and there was no change, but everything was back to normal last night after a few hours, it's the first time that's ever happened so hopefully its just a one off.
CherryRed wrote:So many people say TPG are garbage, yet when I dig deeper they've never been a customer of TPG. I have been a customer of theirs for 8-9 years with next to no issues. When there has been an issue, they have been very helpful. Switching to NBN with them couldn't have been smoother. There's simply nothing for me to complain about.

I've been with TPG on my mobile for years now, they're absolutely fine as a TelCo up until you have to contact their customer support and they become horrendous.

To be fair, in the 6+ years I've been using them, I've only had to contact support twice but both of those times gave me nightmares for weeks after.

Is there anyone who is not horrendous with customer support though? They all turned to shit in the 90s.

I've had horrendous customer support issues with Telstra, both personally and professionally. We lost all mobile phone coverage in our building at the charity I work for and we were without mobiles for nearly 3 weeks. Given that our after hours emergency number is a mobile, this was a massive issue.

The 'customer support' person we initially got at Telstra told us if we wanted to know if there was a service issue, we should look online. We told her we had, and that it said there were no issues in our region. She got snarky fairly quickly and told us there was maintenance being done on the towers in our area and the ETA for our service to be reinstated was 10 business days. We escalated it up through the ranks of Telstra, and on one day inparticular we had 3 technicians ringing us, not one of them knew there was another person also working on the case. It took them 3 weeks to resolve the issue, which was simply to come and reposition the yagi's on our room because they had put in some new towers and our yagi's were now pointing the wrong way.

My point is... poor customer support is not unique to TPG.

Having said that, TPG's customer support for transitioning to NBN was flawless and last night their support person was really taking their time and going through every troubleshooting issue they could think of with Disco to try and resolve his issue.

I'm strictly speaking from an ISP perspective, I've never been with anyone but Telstra for mobile as we simply don't get the coverage out here from other networks.

I'm pretty sure that every ISP is currently stuck in a no win situation.
They don't want to upgrade the old hardware they currently have in their exchanges or increase capacity throughput as the NBN is "coming"
But the NBN is getting no where fast, and people are using more and more data every day due to streaming services.

If only people would abandon streaming services and go back to killing all bandwidth with bittorrent...

I was. And when I cancelled to move to Internode they kept charging me. And when there's stories of peak congestion it's almost always the case the person is with TPG, at least since Dodo's popularity dropped. If it works for you and suits your needs that's great, but don't mistake that for people making up stories, they are legitimately garbage. Hopefully you will be one of the ones who never has a major problem! :)

I think streaming has outpaced torrent traffic now? Going back to torrents would probably help them.

I never said anyone was making up stories, just that most of what I've heard has been hearsay. I've not only not had a major problem, in fact I've barely even had a minor one. I've clearly done pretty well to have had flawless service for nearly a decade from such a rubbish company, given I'm so lucky I should probably buy lotto tickets!

I have some soft cheese that smells exactly like a (clean) dairy. I'm having trouble enjoying it because it makes me think of milking cows, which I never enjoyed.

No, I'm not going to complain when someone spends over an hour doing everything in their power to try and resolve an issue, then not only states they will continue to work on it without keeping us tied up on the phone but ensures I am both SMS'd and emailed a case number in case I wish to contact them again before they get back to me... pretty good service, in my opinion.

And from what I can see, my internet is just fine now.

Can't decide if I should get dinner from Baguette Me Not, Fee Fi Pho Fum or Phoever Vietnamese. Yes I'm basing my dinner selections on restaurants with Pun Names. Wok n Roll is closed and Toastface Grillah doesn't deliver.

I got to the last one and thought "You have to be making these up..."

Nope, I was wrong and I'm moving to Perth.

New Hard drive installed and slowly moving stuff over to it.
So far Steam, and Battle.Net have been moved, along with Forza Horizon 3 (Windows Store App, surprising it moved)
UPlay games moved, just need to repoint UPlay and hope that works.

And god I hate AusPost... package sitting at Sunshine Sorting in Melbourne, has been since Wednesday

I love my 3TB gaming hard drive, I've become such a digital hoarder. All my important stuff is back up on my 4 drive QNAP and I've got an SSD for windows. Next thing I need to get is a bigger SSD so I can keep my currently playing games on there
