When I did tech support the 2nd worst people were those who thought they knew what they were doing. Unless you already know they are competent, it's best to go through all the tests anyway.
Whoever you call doesn't know you, so just run through their script (and actually do whatever provided it's not insane) quickly so you can get to the next step. Think of it as a mandatory tutorial level in Call of Duty or whatever :)
The one that pisses me off is the "connect your computer via a LAN cable, oh you don't have one, well, you'll need to try that and call back". Who the hell owns LAN cables anymore? Let alone ones long enough from where my modem is to the PC.

I still have LAN cables :-P

(I play Hardcore mode in Diablo 3 and prefer not to die due to the wifi having issues so I keep with LAN... ironically, when the ISP dropped out, I was playing D3 in hardcore and lost a character so I suppose they'll get me one way or another)

The more annoying one for me is when they want me to try a different modem. I can understand why but with the NBN on its way, why would I have a spare ADSL2+ modem lying around ready to become obsolete?

To connect my computer to the internet, I have LAN + Ethernet over Power. My Steam link is also connected via LAN cable to the modem, but that's only 50cm away from it.

Yeah if it was convenient I would, or if I was building a new house, but our modem is a few walls and probably 15m away from the modem by the only available route, and I don't want to be running cables and taping them down like I did in the early 2000's lol.

Have you considered Ethernet over Power?

Eh, it's not really necessary TBH.. Wifi works, and pretty much everything in our house runs off it from security cameras to tablets, laptops, phones etc

i have cables running to everything and a switch hanging up precariously on the wall, the joys of renting (everything is 4 pcs and the steam link. tv, chromecast, nintendo switch, laptop and phones/tablets run off wifi)

on another note got rid of utorrent yesterday and installed deluge now that it works with duckietv and its so much nicer. i like a program that actually does what i tell it to

LAN cable is handy to avoid WiFi interference making your connection shit, but they should be able to get around that by looking at your line sync speed. Try a different modem is pretty bad though.

Field tech is due to complete their work by COB Friday. Looks like I'm in for a few more days of shitty internet.

Thats shit...

On another shit note, I have had 3 fillings done... and 1 of them the dentist wasn't sure if it will save the tooth or not as it was so bad.
Also my teeth haven't got holes in them in the normal way, nope... mine are all gum side of the tooth :(

I have so far had 6 done, and I think I still have 4 or 5 to go

Yeah, shitty internet sucks but at the end of the day, it's a first world problem.

Sorry to hear about the teeth. Dad just had a tooth extracted on Monday... was rotting away badly so definitely sort them out and brush/floss/etc regularly as you don't want it to get to the stage where a filling isn't viable.

On the phone with the ISP again.

Last night's technician was pretty decent, just let down by the fact that Optus wasn't open for him to check where we are up to with the field testing.

This morning's one seemed either a little fazed or is lazy as he said we'd have to wait to hear from Optus whilst last night's guy said we'll need to call Optus up. Had to get this morning's technician to be assertive. Not sure if he will call them... I'm giving them an hour to get back to me before I call them up again.

Nothing compared to your problems Mugsy, but I swear to god the bane of my existence is attempting to put new line on a whipper snipper, it's like they design the stupid things to be used once. I've watched a dozen videos, tried it about a hundred times, in the end I duct taped the fucking head half on and did it that way since I couldn't get it together.

Apparently, the area of Optus my ISP needs to contact is closed over the weekend. So slow internet for another two days at minimum.

Been a while since I put a new line on a whipper snipper. I use to be the designated lawnmower operator in the family. Then my bro go old enough to do that so I was on whipper snipper duty. Last time I used a whipper snipper was early 2006 when my parent's old house was on the market. We had all moved out already and someone had to keep it presentable. Not sure I'd remember how to put a new line on now.

Haven't had to replace the line on the one I just bought, but I did note that it looks really hard to replace compared to the old one unless you buy one of their pre-wound heads, with a significant mark up of course.

Also the line size they recommend is a weird in-between one that only Ryobi sell.

Last whipper snipper I had was a Shindaiwa one from memory. The more I think about it, the more I don't remember it being too hard to change the line. The release mechanism was also decent. Dunno if they ate still designed well now.

If you see notice anyone with more bins than they should have (esp recycling bins which is usually 1 bin to two lots in a strata complex), report it to council. Won't fix your immediate issue but it'll hopefully deter the bastards from repeating this sort behaviour... or just hurt them where it counts.
