Worst time of year for it to happen - hopefully you can get someone to repair / replace it quickly. When it happened to us a few years ago, it took 2 months until our landlord could get someone in to repair it.

That is ridiculous that a landlord took 2 months to repair an air con during summer months. Just over a year ago, my tenant reported that the air con at my old unit had died... we got someone out there immediately to fix it. I was only just surviving with my own air con at the time so god knows how it was for the tenant.

Of course, I'm hoping that the Brisbane unit market picks up sooner than later so I can sell without making a loss. Between the rundown nature of my old unit block and the building defects problems of my current place, the financial stress hasn't been a fun experience.

Oh, and Centrelink did a 180 on mum's exemption with Newstart Allowance following the previous letter saying she wouldn't be getting one. She's not going on DSP but she's not being forced to undertake manual labour work (which is all she's trained to do) so I call it a win. Gives her half a year to recover and hopefully show some improvement.

last week of work and myself and 2 of my lads went to naracoorte to replace glass in a farmstead. meant to be there 3 days straight.
roughly 5 hour drive with a van full of tools from adelaide.
anyway, get there, unload took a break and then start work.
remove 3 panels of glass ok.
4th panel of glass and a razer blade snapped and went through my glove and into my left hand (im left handed).
very bad cut.
went to naracoorte hospital. temp stiched up.
drove back to adelaide (left the lads there to finish job) - lucky i had 2nd car which was an auto.
surgery next day to join my nerves back up (no tendon damage).
cast of for 3 weeks, off this week.
still palm is numb and hoping in 6months time it will improve.
good way to end a shit year :)

On a side note, I've never understood why people complain about tradies and how much they make. A skill is a skill, and anyone can in theory take up the skill themselves. Supply and demand is economics 101.

They complain because it costs a lot for something they "could have done themselves". Reality is they can't, or at least nowhere near the level of quality and speed.

I'd comfortably say some of you would earn considerably more than I. all good. I enjoy the work.
I just wish I could be paid for artwork instead :)

Hope it heals quickly for you MT.

Update on Air Con... The repairman came out today, and the control board on the air con is stuffed and will either need replacing, or a whole new Air con...
So this could be a warm few days/weeks...

Oddly I currently have the lease renewal sitting in front of me, and now I'm trying to decide if I renew or see what else is available around town

Seems like a lot of uni students that are the ones complaining, being a tradie can be very profitable at a young age and supply and demand is real there are way less young people moving into trades and not many people are doing mature apprenticeships as its a huge income cut to do.

I know of parts in NSW where Carpenters are charging $100 p/h, that's good money for a guy in his 20's.

Thats good money for anyone!
I don't know about you, but I don't get paid $100 an hour

Suppose it depends on the asking of billable hours in the year. It's good money, but if you're only busy part of the day, of the week, or of the year, then the number needs to be that high to have a liveable wage. A workaholic in an area with high demand and low supply would be raking it in, but I can't imagine that's true of all of them all of the time.

When I went from full time employment to IT contracting, a lot of the things I look for granted like sick leave, pubic holidays, annual leave, periods of non-employment, etc. all had to come from the number I quoted. The number becomes a lot less very quickly.

It ebbs and flows subject to demand, but construction is booming, no builder or carpenter worth their salt is struggling to find work outside of metro regions.

Mind you, there are plenty that think an advert in Yellow Pages and you just wait for the phone to ring that wonder why they aren't winning jobs.

im doing good with strength and mobility with the thumb. feeling isn't there. if you get a can of cold drink- beer, coke, lemonade and press it against the palm near the base of the thumb. I get no sensation what so ever. I haven't tried with a flame :)

and we have clearly some fiends living nearby. im venting here, apologies.

my wifes handbag got stolen coming home the evening of xmas day as we put the kids inside (it was in our front porch on a table).
she had he bag in one hadn and my child in another. opened the door and put the bag down. I followed her and then some fucking knob came in from the street and grabbed it and ran off.
so within 5mins of coming home, we got everyone inside and my wifes hand bag got nicked, and we didn't notice for another..say 7mins?.
no one nearbyt saw anyhitng. I drove around looking for the bastard(by which time I had the video footage - also given to the cops).

and then not last night the night before, my 2 sheds were broken into in back yard. one being the artstudio.
I got cops to try take fingerprints to no avail. too dusty (my main shed has a fireplace, my other shed is open to the weather it never had a door).
took a lot of knives - mostly from my uncle a KIA vet in Vietnam war, and 2 knives from my dads dad in (my papu) in my main shed..hand made very decorative knives.
chisels, small things. found some cash I had stashed in my main shed gone. didn't take my guitars or any pc parts, or my books (obviously-they don't read).

took a few pliars, more older knives and putty knives and I think a camera- I cant find it.

so I put on new locks on everything, ive closed up side entrance area which had a basic gate from when we bought the place. need a new fence and proper gate for driveway - which I cant afford yet but is the new priority of the year.
my neighbours around the street have had so many things - cars, plants, furniture, rego plates, phones, etc stolen and a few can be traced via GPS to a set of units at the street down the corner. the cops say (because im talking to multiple people here) that because the units are so close together they haven't got enuf evidence to actually enter the one the GPS trackers keep showing- it could possibly be another , innocent unit.

pretty pissed off, and feeling besieged.

Sorry to hear about the fuckwits thieving from you MT. It's not a very good feeling when even the police can't help you out. Hopefully the insurance will cover the losses without much hassle.

You should get yourself one of these:

Nah, then you need friends to fake steal it for you ^

Better off getting some cameras and glaring at methheads.
