We're safe where we are at the moment, but the ground is so dry and the wind is so bad that it wouldn't take much for things to change - it's an awful time for everyone involved. I'm looking to take up a volunteer position in the local command centre doing radio/dispatch work at some point in the New Year - one of my volunteers here does it, and her husband is a RFS Firefighter so she's going to show me around to give me a better idea of what they do.

Some douchebag lit a fire in the national park 5 kms from my place yesterday. Luckily firies got it under control last night but it’s been a very smokey couple of days. Hope firebugs end up in the worst pits of hell

Anxiously awaiting a long overdue employment contract, so I can resign and move on from my current role.

The kinda anxious where I feel I may need to medicate.

Ironic that I'm heavily medicated and just want to get back to my usual work routine. Hope we both get what we want.

What's the new gig?

Back to Mining... been offered a ridiculous (good ridiculous, not bad ridiculous) amount of money to go back and work on a project with them. Verbally offered and accepted, just waiting on paperwork which is taking a stupid amount of time... and nothing is concrete until the papers are signed IMO.

Congrats on the offer. You could do with the change and extra money after all the stress with the current job. And agree that an offer is only good in writing. Fingers crossed it comes through soon and that they don't do anything shifty on the paperwork.

Yeah, I'm pretty excited - the largest project I've worked on for them was under 2 million and this is a 685 million dollar project, so it's a bit of a big deal. The waiting is killing me though, this has been in the works/in negotiation for 4-5 weeks and I'm soooooooo ready.

Jesus, that took a long time but everything is finalised and signed off... finish up current role on 20th* December, start new role on 6th January.

(*Have been summonsed for Jury Duty from 9th December for a trial potentially lasting up to 2 weeks, so if I go and get picked and it goes for 2 weeks, my last day will actually be next Friday)

Congrats Cherry!

And if you get on jury duty, I hope it's interesting enough but not overly confronting. My trip into jury duty earlier this year was a waste of time. Didn't get selected at all.

I hope I get selected, this is the third time I've been called in, wasn't picked the previous two times.

As the trial could go up until 20th December, I rather suspect there will be a lot of people trying to get out of it.

Actually, this was how I felt when I got called in.

Waited for two hours only to be told that one of the cases wasn't going to trial because the guy confessed the night before. Then they called out the numbers for the other trial that was going ahead and they stopped just before my number!

I know there are more serious matters at hand but there's no denying that about 40-50ppl had their morning wasted. They need a better system.

Still waiting for those latex, contoured pillows I ordered:

- checked the tracking number on Auspost and the last status update was 10 days ago.
- used the chatbot for help only to be told that my delivery was still on schedule (WTF? It was meant to be delivered a week ago)
- called up their phone service only to have the self check service tell me my delivery was on schedule too
- finally found the option to talk to a human being... who immediately told me that the delivery was late and I should have received my package by now. She concluded that the package was deemed lost by them and gave me a case number so I could contact the seller to arrange for the items to be reissued and paid for by Auspost

Suck it Skynet! As this rate you're not going to be a real thing.

The universe really wants me to change to the new phone... the headphone/ear speaker has stopped working on the old phone.

LOL. Exactly. Though the phone still works with speaker phone on and it's lucky that I text more than talk. But I better transfer my stuff over soon before the rest of it dies on me.

Spent half the day configuring the new phone... though, I still have my sim in the old one. Trying to minimise app downtime between the old phone and the new one by installing all the apps first.

I'm going to miss Windows Phone. I loved the GUI... it was so much more convenient to download apps, have them all drop into the app list and I can pick from that list what I wanted to put on my main tiles page. With Android (and I assume iOS too), all the apps get dumped on the phones' desktop and I need to sort them straight away. Got about 16 folders atm to group up the apps I typically use into some form of logic.

On the plus side, my storage is going to increase 8 times thanks to the phone having 128Gb storage and another 128Gb microSD going into the phone for movies and music.

I'll be able to take advantage of apps I didn't have access to previously such as the nVidia shield app and the maccas/kfc/GYG apps.

The shockproof case I got seems pretty rugged. Not a fashion statement but this phone should be able to take a hit or two now.

Just need to switch my battle.net app over to the new phone's version and I'll be all good.

Brother's going to the Philippines in 2 days and now I'm a bit scared after seeing this...

(he's not there to take drugs... the collateral damage the police are accruing is worrying)

If you've got an Android phone, you should be able to install a new launcher app with behaviour similar to your Windows phone. I've got mine set to put all apps in an app drawer and I copy shortcuts for the most used to a couple of main desktop pages. Using Evie currently but there are heaps.
