Years later, the world is finally ready to get a taste of Star Wars Battlefront 3... sort of. Fan-made creation Galaxy in Turmoil was created based on the long-cancelled game, and it's headed to Steam as a free download.

I'll believe this when it's actually out and can be downloaded, as I'm not sure a "hope" that Disney won't stop it is going to pan out that well.

If they've actually been in contact with Valve and they said it was okay I'd be very surprised. And then very surprised Valve allowed it, since it opens them up to being sued as well. The name might not reference Star Wars but the in-game vehicles are all very clearly Star Wars and they're using the music on their site at least, etc.

That said, I hope Disney does somehow permit this as it would mean the chances they'd ever go after the Star Wars Galaxies emulator would be much smaller. :)

Just tried to find it via Steam and there's no mention of it. But yeah, I share the same general consensus of believe it when I can download it.

Yep, can't see Disney letting it through... but I guess it is a wait and see now. Disney are usually pretty strict on their IPs...

EA would also be quite pissy at anything that would further erode (and draw inevitable comparisons with) their failing Battlefront franchise.

Disney has some lawyers that will go after anything, even what they call counterfeit cakes and they are looking into fonts and graffiti infringements.
According to the complaint in California federal court, Michigan resident George Wilson is creating cakes bearing plaintiffs' intellectual property.
<SNIP>
intellectual property lawyers specialize in pursuing typeface font infringement while other attorneys appear to have identified graffiti infringement as the next great legal hot zone.

The comments on the blog post are full of Lucasfilm and EA hate, as expected. Funny how they got told to shut it down almost exactly two weeks after it went up on Steam. :lol:
Probably the last we'll hear from them. Bunch of silly buggers.

No surprise and it honestly shits me that people are so blind as to see why this was taken down. It infringes on an IP, regardless if it was free or not! I might just go into their house and cook myself a three course meal... (yes not the best analogy, but you get the point!)
