New Australian gaming network provides local ISP-based game servers

Post by NewsBot » 18 Dec 2015, 16:01

It's the most wonderful time of the year! New game network time! We've teamed up with South Australian ISP EscapeNet to give PC gamers a new home online. The new, Australian-based gaming network will be officially launched soon, but we're booting the machines up before Christmas and inviting everyone in on the fun.

Yay!
I wonder if we can transfer our NWN server over, might see what the DMs are planning.

Yeah NWN and Minecraft seem to be two things that are in demand.

Definitely a UT2004 server with map and game type voting on, bots balancing on, and balance human players per team off. Mearehear and Wishful Thinking have both set up good servers but a third would be great. Probably target 18 players per side.

Oh, and I've got a raft of classic UT99 maps (dropbox link on the UT2004 thread) that needs to make it one of these servers.

Mugsy I think more likely we will wait for the new UT to become a bit more polished.

Yeah the new UT is actually really solid. I'm sure once it matures I'd rather be playing it than 2K4.

Or our own custom pack :P
Not the first time I have done it.

Also, I hope that our DMs can remain in control of the NWN server, one problem with GON near the end was it would take months for them to apply Andre's updates - server 1 still isn't up to date, although I suppose it's not necessary...

Nancy, a bunch of us GoNers are playing on machinespirit.net at the moment (MM, Pix, Calla, Chaos, Kharis, Alkarl and such). It's small and basic but nice :)

I was going to say - we're hoping to embrace the community, rather than replace it :)

As far as minecraft goes there's been some call for a modded server. As it stands I only have the resources to run one minecraft server so I've specifically chosen to make it one that's vanilla client friendly as a way of being inclusive. I can see putting up a modded server if I can get another machine running thouh.

Yeah I'd prefer vanilla if possible. I'll jump on machinespirit.net some time.

Machine Spirit also has dynamic map running, so you can have a look at what people have built here http://machinespirit.net:8123/
Also useful when looking for somewhere to make a home out of that isn't too close to everyone.

To quote the advert "It won't happen overnight, but it will happen".

There was also "I can't believe it's not butter". Though still trying to work out what that has to do with any of this. :dodgy:
