Stupid Q - do you lose access to the back-library if you stop subscribing?

Yes, as far as I know. It's more of a Netflix style subscription, where you have access only so long as you're subscribed, rather than a PSN/XBOX one, where the freebies are yours to keep so long as you claim them.

Yeah only active while you maintain the sub, shame it's not available here, hopefully it shows up, as I think I could make pretty good use of it

Mmm...the trial/demos features is not something I'd use (happy to wait for reviews), I can't see much use in the vault (especially if I lose access if I un-subscribe) and 10% discount isn't worth it. Coupled with the general lack of communication/interest over Battlefront's launch, I'm not inclined to be putting my hand up for anything EA is offering for now.

Would the Australian price be around double the US price, if we had access?

It is EA so $9.99 but still in USD, so would actually cost us $15...

I have little doubt that this will be $8.99USD or something when it does launch here, you know, just to keep up that tradition of arbitrarily price gouging us for no rhyme or reason.

Funnily enough $4.99 is about the amount of money I've spent on the Origin store in the 3 years I've had it.

I haven't spent a cent on the Origin store actually, grabbed a few free games, but Steam is still my platform of choice/convenience

Are you sure about EA/Origin charging Aussies USD prices? The reason I ask is because everything I've purchased via Origin has been in AUD. Same with Ubisoft's Uplay (IIRC). All Steam purchases have been USD prices though.

I think I'd rather just pay for the games I actually want. That's always the problem with these subscriptions, they might equal good value as far as adding up the dollars and cents saved, but often it is for games that really aren't quite the ones you want to play. That was my problem with PS+ on the PS3 anyway and I stopped subscribing.

I've got a few games purchased on Origin though, and a handful of the free giveaways too, and overall I don't mind that system too much, but I rarely use it.
