"Mad Max" style paracord bracelet

Post by Mythor » 09 Nov 2015, 15:46

So this forum isn't so lonely and empty...

The other day I was looking for a nice tutorial on something I could make out of paracord and this was the result.
Image
It's based on one guy's interpretation of the one in Mad Max: Fury Road, but with rainbow paracord because I don't have any boring military green paracord. Yet. :)

The tutorial to create your own is a bit long but it's not terribly difficult to follow along and create your own. All you really need is around 10 or so feet of spare paracord, and a small lighter comes in handy for melting the ends neatly.

Took me a bit over half an hour or so. If you're already proficient at the cobra weave you could probably get it done a lot quicker. :)

I got mine a while back from Amazon as it was really cheap at the time. There's stacks of it on ebay, or in the real world you'd probably have to try a camping supplies place or similar. Just search for paracord, "550" with 7 core is the most common. 550 refers to the number of pounds it's supposed to be rated to support but I wouldn't trust my life to a single strand bought off the internet or anything. ;)

There's a bunch of pretty easy to follow tutorials on YouTube, just have to sift through some of the dodgy ones. :)

They are pretty easy once you get the hang of it. I have that style down pat. Bit trickier using two separate colors etc. I learnt by pulling one apart and starting again, haha.

I want to try a two colour one next, just waiting on some new supplies to arrive, couple of different colours on their way. :)

...so other than looking cool, you wear it out when you're in the jungle and when you get stranded, you untie it and use the cord to climb to safety?

Yep! Or to lash things together, use it as the cord for a friction drill to start a fire, pull the cores out to use as fishing line or a snare, brightly coloured ones to use as trail markers. Can use it to create friction on zip ties to break out of them. Or tie things to your bike if they don't quite fit in your bags.

It's a way to carry a stretch of multi-purpose cord other than just as a length of cord. The Mad Max one is about 10 feet of cord.

Also, fashion.

there are even some pretty premade ones on ebay for like $2 for lazy people, might have to look at the kids sizes though due to my girly wrists

You can make them with the paracord but take out the "cord" inside the paracord if that makes sense (so its just the outer layer). Kind of defeats the purpose, but that's how they generally make childrens / smaller sizes, so they aren't as chunky. If its just being worn for fashion or being made just to see if you can then why not give it s try.

Here's an example of the smaller ones. You can see they aren't as thick

You can see in this one its missing the inner part of the paracord, making it thinner overall.

Or you could do something a little different like this

Just have a look around the net, there are heaps of variations.
