I'll let you in on a secret, no electrical retailer cares, we'll lose money just to kill someone else's market share.

Forgot my wallet yesterday and the girlfriend was kind enough to pay for my clothes purchase at Kathmandu (she said she was more than happy to update my wardrobe from the hideous shirts and pants I have). Saved her $20 due to a voucher from Kathmandu.

Today, I get to go buy her some skin care products from Myer where I get back $40 from Amex and get a $10 evoucher from Myer themselves which I can put towards another pair of shorts or work pants.

Also bought a few screen protectors and cases from ebay for the girlfriend, myself and even my folks. 2yrs on from the initial purchase and my parents still couldn't be stuffed getting themselves things to protect their smart phones.

IDK why people don't bother with protection for their phones.
Spend $1,000 on a phone you *should* spend $10 on a case if you're anything like me. My hands just seem to refuse to work sometimes.

The thing that annoys me most - those fucking whitestone dome glass screen protectors are so fucking fragile and prone to shattering.
Broke one just dropping my phone to carpeted floor (1 metre). Now I just get a case that has a lip so the screen doesn't touch the ground if I drop it.

Anyway, my recent purchases were just usual stocking stuffers. Boring shit, but everyone is so hard to buy for.

I bought myself these though:

After Christmas sales are always good.

No idea why I bought the OTG cable considering my phone has a 128GB SD card.
Also been meaning to buy Sharpe on Blu-ray for about 3 years now, hope it's slightly (or better) improved picture, enjoyable show.

Well, in all fairness, my folks spend $150 or less on their phones. Still, for something as important a phone that you need for pretty much everything these days, I'd still spend $10 getting a shock protection case of some sort as opposed to using the plastic sleeve that covered the phone in the box it came in (yes, you read right). I guess that does explain why my folks meet the age pension requirements.

As for the screen protector, my girlfriend and I plan to try out hydrogel protectors this time. Apparently, they fit screens better, especially on mid range to flagship models. Will report back on how we find them. We're sick of tempered glass protectors cracking on us too.

And major purchase number two for today, I was to head out to Myer to grab some make up remover on my Amex card for the girlfriend as I've got $40 cashback from Myer on the Amex for a $200 spend. Before heading out, I decided to google if Myer had the product. Not only did they not have it on their website, but I found that Chemist Warehouse sells a two pack of the make up remover for only $10 more than the RRP. I ended up buying 3 of these twin packs to hit the minimum $200 for a $10 off eCoupon to kick in. So I've now spent $200 for 6 of these bottles vs $200 for 4 of them.

Image

The girlfriend was actually very impressed with the find. On top of the Spanish omelette I made for breakfast and taking care of the key chores we planned for today so she can finish off her paperwork for work, I think I'm in the good books - lol

The girlfriend must wear a metric shitload of makeup on her face to need 1.2 litres of makeup remover... you literally need about 6 drops of that on a cotton pad. Any more, and you either need to re-asses how much shit you're putting on your face or you're pissing money down the drain.

LOL

She said the make up remover will last her at least 2yrs based on her rate of use. Our original plan was to make use of my Amex's rebate at Myer and buy a bit more of something that doesn't expire knowing that she'd be set for the next year with make up remover. Then I found the Chemist Warehouse deal which required a $200 spend for their discount code to clock in... yeah, it's only $10 but I figure I may as well buy a bit more. You never know if they'll stop selling the duo pack at this ridiculously cheap price.

Bought myself an Oculus Rift S for Christmas! The only game I really like on it is Beat Saber! Oh well!

Short of flight simulators or racing games, VR seems pretty pointless at the moment

The Rift S and the Quest have simplified things a lot. No more external sensors, it's all handled by cameras in the headset. Hardest part of setup was the left controller didn't want to pair the first dozen attempts. Worked first time after a software update.

Skyrim and Fallout both look great in VR but trying to move around does my head in. Sticking to plebe mode 2D versions. :D

I want to get one, but just for racing and space games. Would make both so much better and more immersive.
But I currently don't have the space for something like that, so not happening any time soon.

VR headsets look like fun but they'd go the way of my headset too... I just wouldn't be using them on a day to day basis and it'll start collecting dust.

I made use of our health insurance before the year ran out and ordered around $450 worth of contact lenses for Disco and myself, only out of pocket around $140.

I also bought myself a backpack for work, as I'll need to be carting a laptop back and forth each day and you just look like a freak swanning about with a ladies handbag on a mine site - went with one that will work equally well for work, and for all our travels - chose grey, not the light colour though:

Has a few features I like, such as a hidden pocket that sits against your back for valuables:

USB Charging Port:

Luggage strap:

Lots of storage compartments:

Padded laptop compartment:

Fleece lined sunnies pouch:

Side pocket for a large water bottle:

I was gonna say, the light coloured one in the image would get dirty in a mine. Good choice on colour.

Hope the first day of work goes well for you.

Ironically, I did a count of my private health insurance to annual fees costs earlier today and I managed to get back $993 of the $1,296 I paid... not too bad. Good to see you and Disco did a last minute attempt to get the most of your private health insurance too. This year, I plan to make use of my optical early on so it won't be a made rush come December for me... plus I didn't get to purchase a pair of Timberland sunglasses I've wanted for a few years now.

Oh, and the make up remover came in the mail. Girlfriend had mixed feelings... she's happy I bought the make up remover for her but she's angry at the cosmetic companies for overcharging her all these years now - lol

The bag won't actually be going underground with me, it'll sit up in my office... but yeah, they're still not always the cleanest of places as people walk dirt and crap through the building all the time so grey was safer. What I did like about the light one was the light lining, I thought it would make it easier to find stuff but I just know I wouldn't be happy getting around with a grubby looking bag.

I lucked out with getting a replacement Logitech G300s for $19 at Good Guys but the G402 is currently $39 on Amazon delivered. Got two... my bro's G300s died about 6 months back and he's been using the G500 series mouse I gave him previously that's too big for his hands. The 402 is probably better for me but should fit his hands OK.

Needed some new boots for work, and I live in the country so RM's are the way to go, but the price tag is exorbitant and they only make a boot wide enough to fit my foot in their $500 range boots. so giving Mongrel a try - still aussie made and I hear good things:

Image

Started attending boxing classes and saw these as a runout for 1/3rd the new price - obviously white wasn't as popular as the black but I don't care what colour they are I'm too busy trying not to spew to worry about what I look like

If the credit runs out soon, chocolates or lollies from Myer, USB drives or coffee stuff from Good Guys and I guess hand warmers from Kathmandu.
