Your "Game of the Year" Award.

Post by GamingKen » 24 Dec 2015, 13:25

It's nearly the end of another year where we have seen plenty of big and small releases grabbing peoples attention over the last 12 months. But the question is, what was YOUR game of the year? You get just one vote for a game, that can come from any platform you choose, and I will keep a running tally until we have a final result on New Years day for what the community thought was the Game of the Year for 2015.

My vote would have to go to Rocket League. It grabbed 150hrs of my time this year, and has been the perfect pick-up-and-play game for those quiet moments, day or night. A simple to play but difficult to master game, that kept me coming back again and again for just one more match.

Current Votes
The Witcher 3 - 5 votes
Rocket League - 4 votes
Fallout 4 - 3 votes
GTA V - 2 votes
Star Wars: Battlefront - 2 votes
Ark - 1 vote
Dirt Rally - 1 vote
Disgaea 5 - 1 vote
Expand - 1 vote
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate - 1 vote
SOMA - 1 vote

I'm having trouble deciding between The Witcher 3 and Fallout 4. Probably Fallout 4 in the end.

this is tough, rocket league has been great the last few weeks but I think overall for the year it would have to be GTAV. Even though I haven't actually finished the single player game yet the online stuff has me laughing pretty much the entire time, especially when heisting with friends

Same here for mine though 200+ hours of Fallout 4 since release puts it in front for my vote.

Rocket League is definitely up there for it's broad appeal.....but my choice would be Dirt Rally.

Codemasters showed everyone how 'early access' should be done by giving us a well polished product right from the start (April) and then delivering exactly what was promised by the end of the year - the new benchmark in rally sims, for me.

Easily Witcher 3, followed by Fallout 4. Its been a good year for RPGs.

Hmmm, tough one considering I've been playing Diablo 3 more than anything this year.

Thinking through what games released this year that I've actually played, I can only think of Star Wars: Battlefront... that's embarassing. So....

By default: Star Wars: Battlefront

What I'd probably choose if I had played it: Mortal Kombat X (though the PC bugs on launch might be a deal breaker - but I still love my MK games)

Updated the post with current votes.

I'm really interested in trying this out at some point. I've stayed away thus far as I don't have a wheel at the moment and I would find it disappointing not playing this with a wheel. I've also had a severe dislike for Codemasters for many years, for the way they release and abandon games, and for the "douche bag, racer boy" style they brought to their games, BUT this game seem to be an almost complete turn around on all the things I disliked about them. And I really am craving a good rally game (fuck Milestone S.r.l.and their WRC etc. They are my new dislike!)

haha.....I think I know what you mean. I've shyed away from Codemasters racing games since GRID. But I think they've calmed down a bit with DiRT Rally. Although when they added RallyX to the game I thought they might be regressing a tad :P

I highly recommend you get hold of a wheel again and give it a go sometime, mate......there's a reason why they didn't call it DiRT 4 ;)

The Witcher 3 for me. There has been some great releases this year but the Witcher was the one that got me excited about RPGs again.

I can't choose, I would have chosen Rocket League but I played Undertale last night and it's messing everything up!

Hm, that's a hard one. I'd probably have to say Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate on 3DS, very very closely followed by Rocket League.

Witcher 3, easily for me. Lots of great games came out this year, but there's so many reasons the witcher 3 goes beyond them for me :)

From the games that I have played, it goes to Rocket League.

Hopefully Vermintide comes a bloody close second when I get stuck into that after Christmas holidays at my parents

Oh my god how few new games I've played this year.

I think my GOTY is actually Expand.

Like all the other new things I played were GOOD but nothing else was as neatly and beautifully tied together.

Since the only game from THIS year I've bought and played is Ark, it'd have to be that :)

Updated current tally. The Witcher 3 out in front at this stage, which has encouraged me to go and download my copy of The Witcher 2 from GOG, as I have not played it once in the time I have owned it!

Genuinely curious, for the people that voted this, why? On what basis?

MH4 gets my vote for a few reasons. Capcom has a terrific stance on DLC for the Monster Hunter series, even now they're still releasing quest packs, new items and areas for free with DLC tied to Street Fighter, Mario, Metroid and even Link.
The gameplay is exactly as it should be, deep and engaging for those that look for it, but relatively easy for new players to play casually. The game has has great 2-4 player co-op.

And that 100 foot dragon you killed, you can use its tail to craft an even larger weapon to take on the 150 foot dragon. 12 different weapon classes with all wildly different playstyles and hundreds of different weapons to craft in each of those classes.

I never had a single crash, error or glitch in the couple of hundred hours I've put in it since release, the standard of the game is better than most AAA titles I bought on PC.

As per my first post above, out of the games released in 2015, it was the only one I played (that I can think of anyway). Sad but true.

Diablo 3, much like the last 3yrs, has been occupying my gaming time for most of this year. I had bought Battlefront for $17 for my bro (saving him from over spending on a game with so little conent) which I installed and played on his PC whilst he was holidaying in Japan... the only reason I ended up playing any game that was released this year.

My vote goes to Witcher 3, and believe it or not I never played it personally. But sitting next to my husband while he goes through it, it's mesmerising in the storylines and quests. It was like watching a TV show with new twists to the plot! lol
