Team Speak?

Should we establish a Team Speak? I mean, the Internode one is going to die with the serves I would assume, so we should not have to be worried about that for a while, but it might be a good idea to set it up.

I was thinking about this too, I closed down my personal one ages ago, probably not super high on the priority list I imagine but it could help with people moving over.

Discord is looking quite nice tbh.

It's completely free to setup channels etc. Has some really cool features.

I'll have to look into it, free is nearly always good

I think free is best, unless someone wants to fund it themselves for the community, but I think there's enough free solutions around that people will get by

I wouldn't be against hosting something if the free options weren't any good, I never saw the GoN TS super populated anyway so a 50-100 slot server would be plenty?

^this honestly discord is absolutely amazing once you figure it out it's far better than ANYTHING else in the voip market right now and you can connect to a chatroom via a hyperlink in a web browser.

This is deffinitely my preffered voice solution for all things.

Ill set up a discord room tommorow and post a link to it so people can check it out.

We could host one but much of our stuff is hosted in the USA, so i'm not sure how latency would deal with that.

I have a small TS server thats up for renewal in about a week, if you want i can bump up the player count to 50 for now and we can use that.

I looked up Discord. What the hell dose it mean by modern text chat? That sounds buzzwordy to me...

Also, the comparison it has on its site dose not compare to Vent... is Vent dead or something?

Also, in my experience, free dose not mean better. I am looking at this, and it just looks kinda... silly. It looks the facebook chat app and Twitter had a baby, and I am not liking it that much...

Its free. But where are the servers hosted? Probably not in Australia....

I just don't see this as better than Team Speak. It seems like there is a lot of PR fluff to me.

Have you tried it?

Na. I will try it, but I don't see free things ever being better as something that you pay for. There are some things that are free, and are good. But, when it comes to software, payed products tend to be higher quality than free ones.

I have a 100 slot TS server I currently do not pay for - Most of the time it is filled with random people (US, Germany, Hungry, Poland etc) however it is Australian based.

If people are seriously wanting a TS server, I am happy to organise a password on it and throwing it towards PA if people want to use it.

Ok so discord, it has a HTTP service so you can use it straight through a web browser, though there are obviously some advantages to using the actual client on your PC. It's a super light weight client using about half the system resources as skype.

You can be in a voice channel and a text channel at the same time, for example you can be in the team fortress voip channel while you're in the general chat text channel.

I've set up a demo discord room for people to check out, you don't nee to download anything just go to the link.

Even if we don't use it for player attack everyone should be aware of it because it's a really amazing Voip service and I cannot praise it enough either on a technical level or on an ease of use level.

Hosting costs nothing and they have servers in Sydney, if you can find a more awesome solution to group VoIP i'd love to hear it !

From experience, the latency issues aren't that much affected unless they're playing games.

I have a TS3 server hosted in Adelaide that anyone is welcome to use. It's not what you'd consider "PG" though. If you want to join, hit me up for the deets. (I'm more likely to reply on Steam)

Server for Discord are hosted in Sydney I would believe if you select the option when you setup a server. You get a choice so thats not a bad thing.
