Btw I have a decent port of Halo's blood gulch ctf map somewhere. I know a few of you weren't keen on vehicles but this would be a nice one to mix things up.

Hall of Giants was so damn good.

I also enjoyed Valley of the Giants

would probably work well in UT2k4 with vehicles.

Also, did anyone here play much Unreal4Ever? I loved tinkering with all of the weapon loadouts, so many to choose from!

Well, after much digging around, I found my copy of UT2004 plus 6 CDs full extra community content. Damn I found some good stuff... remakes of CTF maps like Eternal Caves, Lava Giant, Coret, DM Space Noxx, Morbias, Peak, Tempest, Fractal... etc, etc.

Even found The Longest Yard remade for UT2004. It's like having everything good about old school arena shooters in one package.

Needs a good sorting first... all up, there's over 3Gb of stuff I just dumped into one folder last night.

So what's the requirement for this server? Just the base ECE package or do we want some custom maps in there?

Also, there's one AU based UT2004 server hosted by ClanHost.com.au (had about 69ping when I checked last night). Should we schedule a few games there first whilst we wait for this DM/CTF server to be set up?

BTW, I was wondering why the graphics weren't as good as I remembered them to be... then I checked the graphics settings and everything was on Med or High - lol. I remember playing this on my Geforce 3 Ti200 and it struggled a bit... wouldn't expect current video cards to not be able to handle the highest settings.

Just played on some random server that repeats Torlan... enemy team got our core down to 2%... and then we pushed back and destroyed their core from 100%. Exhilarating stuff!

Same here. Quite out practice... granted I never learnt any of the pro tricks with wall jumping around or doing funky stuff with the translocator.

Played a few games of Bombing Run... Electric Fields and Skyline are my fave maps there. With skyline, I remember that there were ways to maneuver through some side windows... basically throw the ball in and then translocate in yourself so you can jump through the goals and score more points. Can't quite master that but my chimney aim seems to be pretty good still.

No server has been set up yet mate. And the AU one I mentioned has been taken offline too.

Stupid question... but we don't have to have a dedicated server right?

If we just want to game for a few hours, someone can host a game and the rest of us join it.

Definitely. It should run just fine that way, good enough for some casual events anyway. I started messing around with setting up a dedicated server from my PC the other day, as I am on a fibre-to-the-premises NBN connection which should be good enough for this purpose, but I've been distracted since then and not had a chance to get anyone to test it out. I can look into this week again if needed, and leave it running most of the time.

Find your Unreal Tournament 2004 folder, then choose System folder, find ut2004.ini and edit the following lines below [WinDrv.WindowsClient]
FullscreenViewportX=1920
FullscreenViewportY=1080

If you have some spare time, this might be ideal to do in the long run.

I could probably look into setting up a server on my i5 laptop, though I'm only on a naked DSL connection.

Done, and info below. It is a typical dodgy brothers home setup, so I wouldn't expect it to be great, but I think it is working and should be okay for any casual nights organized. I'm in WA so expect the ping to reflect that, but otherwise my connection should be reasonable for this. Server could be up and down at any point, but I will try to leave it running and maybe people can test it out. It is currently just set for 5v5 CTF with bots filling empty slots (changes can be made later when I have more time). But feel free to setup one yourself if it proves easier/better :)

Look under Capture The Flag in the server browser, and the server name = P/A UT2k4

Nice work mate. Will test out when home.

I try to sort through my maps and upload some classics to Dropbox. We can then vote on what custom maps we want to run.
