The open BETA is out now on STEAM, just wondering who else plays it and if we want to buddy up?

Also let me know what you think about the game itself.

I need two more wins with either Orendi or Shayne and Aurox to (hopefully) unlock Toby the penguin. I'm not overly enamoured with the game, but I really want to play as the penguin. :(

Do like that there's co-op missions. Did the two (?) in the beta with some TF2 friends yesterday and The Algorithm seems much too long while the escort one seems a little more reasonable - except for the bit where one person has to split from the group.
Also a fan of the more MOBA style of combat in the versus modes. Especially since the hapless bots aren't just there for xp/cash, you need them to win the game. At least in the two modes on offer in the beta.

Curious to see how it stacks up against Overwatch, both for me personally and for other people, since they're kinda targeting the same audience.

I feel like an idiot now. Toby's exclusive to PS4 for the beta weekend. Even if you fulfil the requirements to unlock him he won't be selectable.
Posting so as to inform others, if you can't unlock him on PC, this is why. :(

I enjoyed the co-op mission in the closed beta but didn't like the MOBA part of the game. Probably won't grab the open beta considering I've got access to the Overwatch beta now... smaller download too.

I was told Overwatch was more like TF2 than what Battleborn is MOBA. I coudlnt get into TF2, it just didnt play well with my typical cannon fodder style, lol.

Yeah, that's what I've heard too. I never got into TF2 but I use to enjoy the Unreal Fortress mod for UT99 quite a bit. Anyway, I'll make up my mind soon... download almost done for Overwatch!

I do hope Battleborn has a large selection of co-op missions... I consider getting it then as your character's leveling up is only contained to each round so you don't have the issue of player levels being separated by 20+ levels. Everyone is reset to 1 at the start of each round in a co-op map.

Don't forget GIGANTIC - which is like Battleborn and Overwatch and all these other FPS games coming out latley.. lol

Battleborn is either going to die very quickly, or get the noxious League crowd joining it.
I can't see it going any other way, played a game earlier, where 3 were in our first game on our team, and we won. But there were still complaints about protecting both lanes and stuff...

And not a nice, "don't forget the other lane", it was slightly more aggressive.

Agree Mini.

MOBAs aren't really a casual thing IMHO. The competition is too serious.

And the co-op mission side of Battleborn seems pretty dead. I tried getting into a co-op game earlier and found no one!

rather enjoyed the open beta, think i will pick it up on console.
pc just got better choices of classic moba, ie dota lol hon ect.
i dont know why but having characters to unlock plus skins taunts and lore seems good incentive for me to keep playing rather then $5 micro transaction skins like the previously mention games.
i had only one time i couldnt find a coop game which took me 2 hrs to figure out that the beta had ended and thats why i had matchmaking issues.

decided to get it, on xbox, because it seems like a game i can pick up and play for 20-40mins and then go do something else, most of the other games are too time intensive.
its installing now ill let you know what i think.

Not sure if this should be kept under MOBA as most of the modes aren't MOBA.

Here's IGN's verdict...

played 6 or 7 hours of it over the weekend.
really enjoy it, very much a MOBA feel to me if you arent doing the campaign missions - which are more pvE .
great for me if i have 30-40mins spare, in the evening, when i want something not too serious.
the dialogue, espcially the robots are so funny.
"so after this suicide mission, you guys will tell me what that means right?"

This game's now got a F2P version that behaves like HOTS with a rotation of free to play heroes each week. You can still buy the entire game if you just want to unlock all heroes or make piece by piece purchases.

Not sure exactly how much free content is available as I own the game with season pass already (both bought on the cheap when the game was reallly, really, really suffering) but if the campaign missions are available, this might be a good co-op night for a few of us to have.

Well this is disappointing...

- No founders pack for me... apparently just owning the full game (even with season pass) prior to the release of the F2P version isn't enough, you have to have played it. Well what if I couldn't get into any online matches or couldn't find any friends in my Steam list to play it with?

- My season pass hasn't unlocked jack shit. None of the new operations, and none of the DLC characters.

Lodged a ticket with Gearbox support so we'll see what happens.

Decided to load up an offline MOBA match against bots and it's not bad. Also played the first mission. Quite fun but definitely better played in co-op.

Well, it seems I got my Founders Bonus pack anyway... but I can't access it all until my account hits lvl3. And with 0 activity online and offline MOBA matches not counting towards account xp, I'm left with offline campaign grinds :-(

Season pass definitely hasn't unlocked for me. 2k support looking into this atm. Being the second time I've had to contact them RE things not unlocking in their games, I must say that they do respond pretty quickly.

I'm going to download and give it a try... happy to have you AFK in my games :D

Edit:... 44GB? Maybe not

LOL.

Yeah, the download size isn't very friendly now is it? Had it not been for my offpeak quota, I probably wouldn't have downloaded this anytime soon.

Haha, this will have to wait until I'm not on a 200GB quota... which means next month when NBN hopefully finally arrives

This is dead in multi now?

Well, I haven't been able to successfully get into a game since the F2P multiplayer version came out so yeah, I think it's dead.

Would love to play the co-op campaigns though but no players there either when I've tried.

This guy's vid from 6 days ago pretty much sums up how Gearbox botched the F2P launch. Marketing was minimal and the player numbers spiked up from double to triple digits only. Needs to be quad digits at minimum considering this is at a world wide scale.

Additionally, who releases something just before E3? I suppose we might see numbers increase after E3 when people are around to play it.

EDIT: Looks like it did hit 4 digits... just:

http://steamcharts.com/app/394230

but numbers went down when E3 started. Looking at the Battleborn multiplayer moba mode and other options, I'm think Paragon might be the game to play for those who want a FPS moba.

The problem for me is that I've only unlocked Novice level Vs Public matches and there's no one around on Novice so I never get into any matches and can't unlock the next level up.

For the story mode on advanced difficulty, the wait time tonight is apparently Average and not Long... but I've still yet to find a team mate after 5min.

I tend to agree with what a lot of people have been saying. Gearbox should have understood the payment models that works from the start. Either:

- F2P with additional content unlocked via microtransactions. I would have given all multiplayer maps for free with the heroes to be unlocked. Getting the first two missions in story mode for free and subsequent ones unlocked via something like a $5-10 payment would have also been smart.

Or...

- retail payment with all DLC free like what Overwatch did and have additional microtransactions via loot boxes.

Both of these models have been proven to work. Hell, even EA is getting it with Battlefront 2 not having a season pass and all DLC coming for free (ala OW's business model).

Of course, there are problems with either model. The first requires a constant stream of content to be generated so people keep spending. Has pros and cons (in the case of HOTS... I'm sick of assassin heroes but they're the easier ones to make compared to the other classes). Likewise, after an initial retail payment, there's less incentive to push content out at a faster pace as we can see with Diablo 3 and the player base grows tired of not having new content.

I'm really bummed this did badly, wanted to do the SP coop stuff when it was on sale sometime... haven't had decent internet so have been waiting on that getting fixed... oh well.

Reading your post makes me see that even when i get internet again this wont really be an option.

Huge shame, not that the game looks that amazing but it looks good enough for a bit of a bash when bored of the usual games.

I got Battleborn yesterday for $9 from EB Games (JB Hi Fi also had it for $10) so I can't complain, a quick run through of the co-op and maybe a few matches of multiplayer is worth $9.

So far I've only played a bit of the co-op with friends so I haven't had to wait for matchmaking.
