...you guessed it. Any posts that don't fit in the other categories - or any discussions about gaming hardware (including Steam Machines!) - should go in here.

Peripherals - Gamepads, Wheels, Flight Sticks etc.

Post by GamingKen » 07 Nov 2015, 12:27

Show off your gear, or discuss what's on your wish-list!

I'm without a wheel these days, after my old Logitech DFGT kicked the bucket, and I haven't really been keeping up with what's new on the market, but I was impressed to see a new wheel out from Logitech, the G29. And this time they even have a version of it for Xbox users, the G920.

(this guy needs to learn about using the brake pedal, ha!)

Holy shit a new wheel. I must say I'm not a huge fan of my G27. My GF's DFGT was really good though. My next wheel (If I get one again) will probably be a fanatec or maybe a Thrustmaster.

It surprised me too! I'd probably also prefer a Thrustmaster or a Fanatic, but this G29 is a pretty tempting. All the benefits of the G27 with the added bonus of the DFGT style layout, which was damn handy for navigating pit menus and stuff in iRacing.

I'm thinking of getting a wheel for my Xbone, would be great for Forza 6. Not sure which one though.

The good thing with these is that they are PC compatible too, so you could make use of it for the Xbone and anything that grabs your interest on PC. I think it is the first time Logitech have done the G series wheels for Xbox, but they have a good history with them for PlayStation and PC, and this wheel is built upon that. They haven't tried to "reinvent the wheel" (ugh, did I say that?), but have built upon what's worked well.

The price is high, but Logitech always show a high RRP, even on it's G27 they would show $499, but often it sold for half that in stores, or on ebay. Sadly wheels are never very cheap though (if they are they tend to be garbage).

That sounds good actually, thanks for the suggestion. I'm getting some JB Hifi vouchers in the next few weeks, might put them towards that.

Out of curiosity, I've just finished a new race-sim cockpit and was wanting to show off some pictures of it. I know over at GoN we had a thread for it, but I can't see one here, or whether the old thread might be migrated over to here at PA.

Any ideas to what I can/should do?

I'd say feel free to create a new version of the GON one mate, or add to this thread. Whichever would be totally fine I'd say :) Always love seeing new race-sim cockpits!

I'm also part of the Extreme 3D Pro club. :D
I love mine for Elite: Dangerous.

I also use a Logitech G710+ keyboard and Logitech G9x mouse, as well as 1x wireless and 1x wired 360 controller for certain games.
I'm pretty excited to add a Steam controller and HTC Vive to that list some time in the future.

Add me to the extreme 3D pro club, also have an xbox one controller plugged in and a wireless adapter for an old 360 controller until I get a xbox one wireless pc adapter.

I like my G27, but it's way too much of a pain to set up and pack up. Takes forever, and by the time it's set up I've lost interest in playing.

I tried getting into Elite Dangerous, played it like twice, used my Saitek X-55, it was pretty fun, but really didn't appeal to me. I don't have the attention span for these things.

I bought a Steam Controller last week, it's meant to be sent out on the 10th (in the U.S), so hopefully I'll have that in the next week or so. Pretty excited for that. It'll be different. Tried basically every other controller there is, 360 controller is probably my favourite, except the cheap joysticks break too easily. Razer Sabertooth is nice, but I really hate the thick braided cable, it's just too chunky and gets in the way. The buttons are so much better because they're switches and not rubber dome shit. You can actually feel that you've pressed it, and the clicky is nice. It's the reason I have an MX Green keyboard.
Considering splurging on the XBONE Elite controller. I'll probably buy it around Christmas time, see how I go. Trying to not needlessly spend too much money right now.

How do you go about getting a Steam controller to Aus?

I'd go through Amazon, and Auspost have a service to redirect your Amazon purchase through a point they have in the US and back to Australia. Not sure how pricey that service is though. https://shopmate.auspost.com.au/

I bought it through Amazon directly. They ship to Australia. All up it was 86.22 AUD at the time. Not sure what it would be now because of exchange rate, but probably about the same.

Picked up the Xbox Elite controller. Great controller and has a bit of weight to it. But I cannot map keyboard buttons to the 4 paddles on the bottom of the controller. You can only re-bind face buttons on the controller to these paddles.

Doesn't look like you use the buttons if you unbind then either via other applications with out a button being mapped to the device.

My mate got the Elite Controller and the first thing he did was map the stick click-ins to the paddles.

While this is a great option. I want to leave the controller layout as is and map extra keys to the paddles to use them for Team Speak and other options when in game so I can sit back and still play with a controller and chat with out to much fuss.

Might have to look into the stick clicks option
