Re: Planet Trump
Interesting (and long) article by a writer who has studied 4chan for a long time, and how it relates to the rise of the alt-right and Trump

Just a bit of fluff that I thought was funny.

that was a good read, thanks SathiasSathias wrote:Interesting (and long) article by a writer who has studied 4chan for a long time, and how it relates to the rise of the alt-right and Trump

the paragraph that spoke volumes, yes it was a long read...
Trump the loser, the outsider, the hot mess, the pathetic joke, embodies this duality. Trump represents both the alpha and the beta. He is a successful person who, as the left often notes, is also the exact opposite — a grotesque loser, sensitive and prideful about his outsider status, ready at the drop of a hat to go on the attack, self-obsessed, selfish, abrogating, unquestioning of his own mansplaining and spreading, so insecure he must assault women. In other words, to paraphrase Truman Capote, he is someone with his nose pressed so hard up against the glass he looks ridiculous. And for this reason, (because he knows he is substanceless) he must constantly re-affirm his own ego. Or as Errol Morris put it, quoting Borges, he is a “labyrinth with no center”.
But, what the left doesn’t realize is, this is not a problem for Trump’s supporters, rather, the reason why they support him.

Good read, makes a lot of sense. The whole idea of 4chan and doing things for the lulz is that many of these people don't receive any social validation in real life, but if they can create a funny meme that persists on, they have achieved something

Baldwin hits the nail on the head at ~3:20: "Trump is always searching for the stronger better word, and he never finds it"...

Re: Planet Trump
He is about to sign off on a religious freedom act which is basically saying "No no no, we cant have Sharia rule here, that would mean they can discriminate against people, lets do it ourselves instead with our own religion "
This will not end well for anybody who is not a fanatical christian right supporter.

Special counsel can subpoena anything they want and refusing to comply is an impeachable offense in itself. Schadenfreude is off the charts.

I have a feeling her words have been blown out of proportion by an internet circlejerk. From the limited bit i read i took the impression that she wanted to restrict access to jihadi sites etc, just lock down the internet like people assume. I don't like her, but people are just looking for any reason to cry like bitches.
He had me at the start but very quickly lost me, to me that reads like he doesn't really understand 4chan at all. It reads like he's just wailing on anything that goes against his personal stance on something.... everything he disagrees with (or doesnt understand) he makes out to be the ramblings of sad, lonely guys who have no friends/girlfriends.Fireslide wrote: ↑01 Mar 2017, 20:30Sathias wrote:Interesting (and long) article by a writer who has studied 4chan for a long time, and how it relates to the rise of the alt-right and Trump

That article only makes sense if he started out with the premise and then just worked backwards to bullshit his way to the point he wanted to make.

Trumps fake Time Magazine cover keep getting more and more hilarious.
The bar code used on it was taken from this 2010 tutorial on how to make a fake Time Magazine cover
https://leoamoretti.wordpress.com/2010/ ... -tutorial/
and its not even a Time Magazine bar code, its for karaoke software

When I watched Insiders this morning I thought Chris Ulhmann was (surprisingly) right on the money with his comments on Trump... well apparently it's resonated a bit wider than expected and his segment has gone viral worldwide.

Chris nailed it one of the best critics of Trump so far but there is still a long way to go... sara james"s analysis on abc news breaky this morning was also pretty good
and good to see Turnbull and Macron hitting it off, hopefully that French result will embolden him to take on the right loonies in the Libs

Re: Planet Trump
What you saw of trump at the G20 reminded my of that cousin or nephew at the family reunion ,the one thats always bored and doesn't want to be there so mopes around and can't be arsed doing anything ,sending Ivanka to a leaders meeting instead of going himself was a perfect example of his "dont give a shit" attituded - love it or hate it the U.S balances out states like Russia or China so the west really needs trump gone and america back with some sort of sane goverment ,(or as sane as you can get in america
)

Re: Planet Trump
Yep I thought the same thing about Turnbull and Macron... I always had high hopes for Turnbull, despite him being in a party I don't traditionally support, and if he adopted a more centrist position I'd possibly still be inclined to see him somewhat favourably.brimlad wrote: ↑10 Jul 2017, 10:22Chris nailed it one of the best critics of Trump so far but there is still a long way to go... sara james"s analysis on abc news breaky this morning was also pretty good

Re: Planet Trump
Turnbull is very much a classical liberal; it's a pity there are so few of them on a party of that name.
