Is Battlefield 5 headed to World War I?

Post by NewsBot » 29 Feb 2016, 10:52

EA has already told us that Battlefield 5 is in the works, with the publisher promising a return to a more classic style. Has this online retailer spilled the beans on just how classic, with an apparent listing for the FPS, due out in October?

Yes please! Though I do like Mythor's idea of doing it under the Bad Company name and keeping a modern version BF combat too.

I also don't think a core battlefield game will return to WW1, however if that's where Bad Company goes, I hope the 4 guys from that time travel :P

My father has wanted a WW1 shooter since he played wolf3d... really hope this happens, for his sake.

If they can recapture the experience of BF1942, then I'm all for this. If not, then meh.

Hmm i'm not too sure about ww1, while it'd be interesting i don't think that style of warfare would play well into how bf4 gameplay is.

I'd honestly prefer ww2. Either way, it's better than another modern day war game so i'm exciting to see how it turns out.

Not really sure how WW1 can translate into fluid, enjoyable combat without being either silly or just a farcical reskinning of something more modern.

Who the hell wants to play a game where each team has 3 guns?

My thoughts exactly, Nekosan. Modern warfare games have been done to death, and any WW1 wouldn't offer enough content to stimulate the masses for very long. Whereas, warfare utilities around the Korean/Vietnam era is a good balance in my opinion. But hey, one is allowed to dream.

Pretty much what i saying, i'd say the gameplay would feel a bit...clunky. Just due to the nature of the weapons, bolt action rifle gun battles lol That'd do my head in :p

i'd love them to go back to ww2!! :(

You never played much CoD then (Prior to it becoming...silly after cod4). Bolt actions were where it was at.

I wouldn't be sad about WW2 either, but I doubt very much that it would live up to my expectations after playing games like Red Orchestra

It'll be interesting if it really is WW1. LevelCap's video below does raise a few good points as to how a WW1 game could work out:

I'd be happy with a WW1 BF game... no one's made a good attempt at WW1 and it would help keep BF4 relevant for a while longer.

But then DICE did want the game to be esports friendly and I don't think a WW1 game ought to be considered esports material... some respect needs to considered for WW1 and not glamourise it via the esports arena.

Honestly, i've played pretty much every shooter ever released, an espionage game or somesuch i could understand but even remotely historical ww1 would be weird as an fps and i strongly doubt todays market would buy it. It would need to be VERY graphic and a total departure from what's the norm atm in terms of play style.

Would rather more 2142.

Yeah bf2141 would be awesome. i'd assume DICE don't want to look they're copying COD with the whole future soldier thing atm though, even though bf did the future thing way before them haha

Either ww2 or the future will do :D

i actually did play plenty of Cod 1 and 2, day of defeat, you name it. Bolt actions worked in them because there was a good variety of different weapons if you didn't like using bolt action. Sure it was fun using the kar98 here and there, that was about it for me

Im not saying ww1 was all bolt action weapons, but majority of it was.
