Been promoted to clubman in Dirt Rally. Question is, what vehicle should I purchase for this? I have 146,000 credits.

Trackmania 2 Lagoon has been released (part of the TM2 package so just download any of your current modules if you wanted to get it). Very few reviews out yet, most not terribly complimentary.

Not as fun as Trackmania Turbo to be honest, but TMT doesn't have user-made tracks so the TM2 series has more legs on it.

Vanquish has also released on PC. It's from Platinum Games. It's amazing. It's also a console port of a 360/PS3-era game.

Started up Factorio to play again since the 0.15 patch was available.
Good to see they have added some new things, I noticed a Uranium patch of resources last night near my base.
And after the 70 odd hours I have played I am slowly working out how to start base, and how to get resouces moving about as well as possible. I do have some new ideas that I may have to look into though... most were thought of while writing this... hmm damn work and not being able to play now!

Also some of the custom matches that PUBG OCE are putting on are good to play in and watch. So far I have only managed to get into 1 game, but it was a 8 man team game with max loot... so every house had 2 assault rifles, a shot gun and a 4x scope... was an intense battle because every battle was huge.

Just wanted to say at the top that I read all of your posts. I'd 'like' them but that function is broken. Just in-case you all think I'm more autistic than I am when I come in here and spam.

So.

Distant Worlds Universe is stupidly over-hyped when it comes to difficulty. I've played a full-manual game (you can automate every single function) and have already discovered hyper-drives and am about to colonise my first planet. Kinda easy so far. What contributes to this mythical sense of difficulty is the abominable UI. Nothing is clear, nothing can be back-tracked. Maybe that's why I like Paradox games so much because I don't have to rely on my brain, I just surf tool-tips back to causes.

With that said though, DWU is excellent in that it breaks the mould for 4X imo.

Easily the best thing about it is the economy as its the best implementation in a game that I've ever seen. You have your government economy (the player) that is dependent on taxation. But there's also the private economy that is run entirely by the AI. So when I build a space station, the AI uses that to build their mining ships/escorts etcetera which they pay me for. If I lower the tax rate, I'll increase happiness which means I'll grow my population faster which means my tax-base expands... and if I lower the tax rate, the private companies have more money to spend so their bonus income balloons my wallet. Times are tough? Crank the tax rate for a few weeks. Times get easier? Lower it and increase your bonus income. Ingenious and lifelike! In fact, I ran at a deficit at the government level for the first hour or so of play while the private companies pumped shitloads of money allowing me to build more gas mines (which in turn make extra money from the private gas exploiters!)

Ugly as sin, this game, but lots of fun and freedom when you're playing it.

So this is the product of four hours work...

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =935428786

Next to nothing, right?

WRONG. SO WRONG. WRONGWRONG.WRONGYWRONG@WRONG.COM

First I had to research hyperdrive tech while slowly building my gas-mines and fleet. Then it was balancing taxation rates and ensuring the private sector was earning enough coin. That was about 3 hours worth of effort.

As you research new parts, you can update your ships designs and then retrofit existing ships. This is surprisingly addictive as you balance habitation and life support needs with your desire to build the most efficienct ship or station. You even get to design the private sectors gear so that they can maximise profits and improve your own revenue.

Pre-hyperdrive your ships take minutes to crawl between planets in your own system. When I finally unlocked hyperdrive, I was able to flit to the next star in seconds. Suddenly I'm a galaxy-spanning power to contend with. After creating my first colony (that's the smaller bulge on the left) I found one of the local pirates local systems. Absolutely spanked him thanks to my heavily stacked blasters and torpedos but found my ships kept running out of juice... only to happily discover that hyperdrives require no fuel. Jump. Refuel. Jump. Smash. Jump. Refuel....

Also, Vanquish. Did play the first missions up to the boss before DWU. It's still as stylish as when I last played it. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =935352713

One final spam. Starpoint Gemini Warlords is now in full release. Holy shit has this game come a long way. Lots of polish and care in the final release and all game mechanics in play. Best has to be boarding where each enemy ship has a number of rooms you need to advance through to get to the bridge (indicated in the lower left of the screen in easy to read images). You can either try and progress to take it over, or you can choose to pillage the room you've just entered... so if you need weapons and your troops have advanced to the armoury, you can choose to pillage instead and see what you can extract. Very cool stuff. The end-game is also quite complicated but based on my experience with the beta and SPG2, there's a LOT of busywork to get to that point. Still, very pretty, very fun space game (like rebel galaxy but not as boring after 5 hours).

I would bet any money it isn't a stunt. There seems to be a subculture of perpetually angry gamers out there that get outraged at the slightest bullshit. This week it's this and the fact that some cinemas in America are holding women-only screenings of Wonder Woman. Sensitive broflakes.

I've never really gotten into any of the FarCry games (really tried with FC2), but that kind of whiny snowflakeism makes me want to play FarCry 5. Or at the very least, rewatch Red State.

The FarCry post above... dude says Boltair instead of Voltaire.

Right, fuck ya Mini, cop this...

Starpoint Gemini Warlords. If you'd played the beta you would think this was a different game. A story mode, a decent ongoing tutorial about all of the mechanics, some super fucking cool space battles and OH MY GOD FINALLY you can actually tell how frequently you receive resources. In the beta it was fucking guesswork, but now I can hover over each type and see what is being collected, what parts of your empire contribute towards it, and when you're going to get it. Makes planning upgrades to the Concordia so much easier. Also FLEETS. This wasn't even in the beta but now I've got a fleet of 4 other Corvettes that follow me around and help me fuck shit up. Unclear whether I can upgrade their weapon systems.

All up though, in way better shape than previously. Also a great game to listen to Spotify streams with... had a 'Just Chill' playlist going and it was the cruisiest time.

Quick crack at The Hunter Call of the Wild as it's introduced a firing range, then quickly upgrading my mining bases in Distant Worlds Universe as, if anyone ever reads my spam they'd know this, mining bases are private companies. This means I can upgrade the mining base template to include fucktonnes of lasers and shields as well as fighter squadrons and the private sector will pay for it!! Been getting some great advice from Reddit around my next steps. Gotta take it slow. Also figured out why I love games like EUIV and Distant Worlds but suck so hard at Starcraft and its ilk... real-time pause! Dunno why I was so oblivious to that fact but it is definitely the difference... the ability to slowly plan and figure shit out. Playing EUIV doesn't make you smarter, it's because you're actually mentally slower than the dudes 'n' gals with their uber-micro in standard RTS.

Then after all that, flight at 6am tomoz and iPad gaming tomorrow night in Sydney. Just as I was starting to have fun!

I've never really been interested in the Farcry games either, picked up 3 and 4 a while after their release when they were $5~$10 or so from some digital retailer (Actually got FC4 on a pricing error :D) and dabbled in them a bit, they felt very samey and the general cannon fodder of island pirates/rogue military antagonists were kind of generic boring mooks I thought.

With that in mind, I'm considering pre-ordering or atleast very closely following the FC5 news from what I've seen so far.
Fundamentalist 'sovereign citizen' type of militant fanatics with a very deliberate and distinct 'Westboro Baptist church' vibe, set in what looks like a very Bible Belty Montana USA?
Heck I'm already intrigued and very interested just on the merits of its uniqueness alone.

That Change.org link is broken for me currently, something about a server upgrade.
What are people petitioning against?

Hahahahaha, happy I could get you back into the long posts :D

As for gaming... Last night it consisted of Total War: Warhammer, F1 2015 and Project Cars
Warhammer
My Chaos campaign came to a grinding halt just after turn 100 when one of the Chaos gods decided that he was going to challenge me. His army consisted of Chosen Warriors chariots and Hellcannons... mine was Marauders and Maruader Horsemen. Decided that I hadn't advance fast enough and that I was stuffed. So started a new Dwarf campaign instead. Now to try and go a bit faster with my advancement this time around and hopefully get somewhere.

F1 2015
Attempted to play F1 2015 last night, but the AI is horrendous... I managed to take off and got a good start and was leading the race. My brother got taken out by an AI and ended up at the back, made his way back to 13th, then got rammed into a wall by the AI while doing some retarded over take... so we stopped playing that and moved onto PCars.

Project Cars
After F1 was shit, we decided to play a racing game where the AI has some sort of idea how to drive, and chucked it on the Formula B cars around Monza. This started off badly with me forgetting that I had it on manual gears, and my car sitting on the start line revving but going no where... when I did get going I stuffed up the first chicane and dropped to last place with a 20 second gap to the next placed AI... not exactly a great start. Made my way back up to everyone, passed a couple, then stuffed up one of the chicanes and dropped to second last, and stayed there for the rest of the race.
So we started another race after that, where we both took off and got 1st and 2nd into (and out of) the first chicane, and it stayed that way for the rest of the race... I managed to pull out a 20 second lead at one point, until I did some stupid things and it dropped back to 5 seconds, and stayed at that to finish off.

I always wonder how deeply anyone can write about games. I struggle for a 1-paragraph review after 25 hours. Yet DarkMellie makes an essay out of 25 minutes of gameplay it seems. It's impressive.

Thanks all, I'm going to take it all as a compliment :D

And yeah Kel, I wish I had still had my writing outlets (like GoN and Ripten) as they were incredibly cathartic (and when I used to host my stuff on my own website I could read through chronologically and see how my writing improved), but alas, all gone.

Hotel last night, playing Prison Architect. 100 cell max security prison, fully auto with doors, phones and cameras all wired up, lots of guard towers.. some small rehabilitative efforts but mostly it's a vindictive castle of penal fortitude. Think it's worth $8,000 and is making $2,000 a day... and only 4 deaths (three in the showers AND SOMEONE KILLED ONE OF MY DOGS).

Good times!
