Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
The girlfriend figured it out... Mailbox key!
But I was hoping it was a hidden sex dungeon.

So not only is Microsoft discontinuing support for Windows 7 but Windows Phone won't be supported by the end of this year. WhatsApp will also cease to function then too which now forces me to jump on either iPhone or Android. I hate the UI for both.
But I'll likely go with Android so that I can a little more familiar with the interface when doing troubleshooting for mum and dad.

Android is quite simple tbh. Had Android phones for over a decade now and I've never had to do anything complicated on them to get them to work.

Wouldn't be too surprised if somebody has written a Windows Phone style launcher for Android.

It's mainly going through the settings that I wouldn't mind being more familiar with. Apart from that, yeah android seems pretty stable. I'll miss my tiles though.
I could use an Android boot on my Windows Phone though.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
Finally got through to someone RE cancelling my ADSL service only to be told that my service hasn't been migrated from MNF to Southern Phone yet... so I'm on the phone to MNF now

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
DO NOT MIGRATE TO SOUTHERN PHONE. I was with MNF for NBN and was migrated to Southern. It was the worst month of internet I've had in a long time.
a) No static IP (unlike MNF) b) No public IP (you get a private 10.* one, so no outside access for you unless you stump up $10pm for static) c) I had a minimum latency of 25-30ms. d) when I was first churned, I was getting roughly 6-10 down and about 2 up. My plan was 50/20 :p The final straw was a month ago when I got 1mb down and 0.5up
Consider yourself warned.

I managed to stop the migration process and have requested a cancellation on the MNF end. If all goes well, my service will be offline come 3rd July. The only annoying thing is that I'll need to order a new MNF VOIP service but I'll probably grab their Cisco SPA122 deal below which isn't bad.

My Exetel NBN connection is apparently up and running at the new place but I haven't moved over there yet so can't say how it is. At $60/mth for an unlimited quota, 50/20 connection for two people, I'm pretty happy. It's a FTTP connection too.

Damn I'm tired after spending a chunk of today packing. Back's a bit sore too.
I seriously need to purge stuff.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
The only FTTP experience I've ever had was at my bro's place and he had more random dropouts than me... but I suspect it's because he used AusBBS. I'm hoping Exetel works out well.
Looks like I'm going to hit my $1k spend on my Amex easily. I have the contents insurance at the new place come in around $600 which I can pay next month and I've also got a $360 direct debit from Exetel due around 7 July too.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
We don't have any drop outs... but I will tell you that when your internet goes 'down' it means there's something really, really fucking wrong as opposed to you just needing to reset a router etc. Like, the minute our NBN is out, I pretty well know we're gonna be offline for days... and that's getting repairs done as a priority customer with the backing of the McDonald's account managers.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
FTTH here, my internet has gone down like 4 times in the last year and immediately reconnects. If your shit is installed right first time you wont have any issues.

Re: Fleeting/Random/Thoughts
Our outages have been nothing to do with shit not being installed right, and everything to do with nearby construction and/or fuckheads on this site digging through cables. Hence why any outages we've had have taken days to fix, not hours.

Also, I'm not entirely okay with the fact that I'm not a millionaire this morning. I just don't find this situation to be acceptable. I fully planned on waking up $40M to $80M richer this morning and I'm unhappy that my plan was not followed by the universe.

The universe gave me a headache on the day I have jury duty and got me to stand in the cold for an hour. It's on dickhead overdrive today.

Second last day of catching the train as my normal commute to work. I suppose my recent increase in bus use should condition me for next week's change.
